PJ Wright
Guitar virtuoso PJ is founding member of Little Johnny England,
as well as half of duo PJ & Peggy (with Fairport
Convention's Dave Pegg), lead guitarist of The Dylan Project (with
Pegg and Steve Gibbons), and an excellent solo performer. As well as
being one of my oldest friends, PJ is an assiduous promoter of my songs
in the English folk scene.
His recording of my song "Lily of Barbary" has
already led to two further versions on CD (see below). You can learn more
about this
excellent chap (and buy his albums) here.
Little Johnny England
Folk-Rock aces LJE have been through various personnel changes in the
last few years, but at the moment, as well as founder members PJ Wright
and Gareth Turner (melodeon), the band features fiddle-meister Guy Fletcher,
bassist Hugh Bunker and drummer Mark Stevens. The band have recorded
no fewer than seven of my songs, with another three on their
forthcoming album "Tournament of Shadows". More info and shop
here.
Fairport Convention
The mighty Fairport, celebrating over 40 years of folk-rocking, were
one of my favourite bands of the late 60s/early 70s, so it's with great
delight that I've got to know them and experience their recordings of
my songs "Heart of the Song" (on "The Wood and the Wire" 2000)
and "Hawkwood's Army" ("A Sense of Occasion" 2007). The
latter was also included on their 2008 DVD "Fairport@Forty", recorded
at the Cropredy Festival in their jubilee year. Much more on Fairport
here.
Other recordings of Scrowthersongs
There have been recent recordings of the song "Lily of Barbary" by Isambarde and
4Square. Check
'em out.
